Ryanair to open 10 new winter routes from Malpensawhere it will add an 8th plane, increasing traffic by 10% to 4.5 million passengers. This was announced by CEO Michael O’Leary, explaining that in the meantime, the number of passengers at Orio Al Serio (Bergamo) will be reduced from 24 to 20, with a loss of 5% of its 20 million available seats and 5 routes, while Trieste and Reggio Calabria will be “rewarded” for having abolished the municipal surcharge.
O’Leary: “Municipal Surcharge Is an Obstacle to Growth”
Ryanair Group CEO Michael O’Leary is calling on the government and local authorities to “abolish the municipal surcharge at all airports” as they have done in Trieste and Reggio Calabria. In his opinion, its abolition “would allow Italian airports to enjoy rapid growth in traffic, visitors and jobs in the coming years.” Ryanair is ready to respond “with a $4 billion investment in Italy by adding 40 new aircraft,” generating “over 20 million passengers per year on 250 new routes and 1,500 jobs in Italy’s regions.”
