Sam Neill, the New Zealand actor, has died at the age of 78 Piano lessons And Jurassic Park. His passing was announced with a statement published on his Instagram account. From Northern Ireland to New Zealand

Born in 1947 in Omagh, Northern Ireland, to an English mother and a New Zealand father serving in the British Army, he moved with his family to New Zealand in 1954. He began acting in Canterbury University productions and moved to Wellington to join the Downstage Theatre. After some small roles on local television, the turning point of his career came in 1977 with Sleeping Dogsthe first New Zealand film to be released in the United States.

1993, the year of consecration

In 1993 Neill gained international fame thanks to two performances: that of New Zealand settler Alisdair Stewart in the Oscar-winning film Piano lessons by Jane Campion and that of Dr. Alan Grant in Jurassic Park by Steven Spielberg, a role originally offered to Harrison Ford. Neill played Alan Grant again in the sequels Jurassic Park III And Jurassic World Dominion.

The actor died in Sydney, Australia, surrounded by family. The family spoke of a “sudden and unexpected” loss, specifying that Neill had remained “cancer-free”: last April he announced that he had overcome the disease after almost five years of treatment.
