The tradition is renewed to celebrate the fruit also mentioned by Abbot Gioacchino da Fiore: «Nothing less precious, both for its abundance and for its perfection, is the harvest of figs (…) black, some white, some brown, some reddish, but all so sweet that drops of honey drip from their supposed mouths, and as if a single opening on the head were not enough to spin it, they often tear themselves apart at the sides». The event promoted by the Municipality of San Cosmo Albanese and the Gal Sibaritide will offer food for thought on the value of figs, an economic and social resource for the entire province of Cosenza. A precious heritage to be enhanced through an event like the one scheduled in San Cosmo Albanese, useful for making known the characteristics of a unique fruit. The activity is carried out within the cooperation project short supply chains and local markets co-financed by FEARS – Measure 19.3 and coordinated by Roka Produzioni – Eventi&Comunicazione Creativa.
The event program
The event will officially open at 6:30 pm at the San Cosmo Albanese Auditorium with two Panels, preceded by institutional greetings from Gianluca Gallo, regional councilor for agriculture; Pasqualina Straface regional councilor; Damiano Baffa mayor of San Cosmo Albanese; Arcangelo Minisci deputy mayor of San Cosmo Albanese; Antonio Pomillo, mayor of Vaccarizzo Albanaese and president of the Gal Sibaritide and Enrico Parisi, provincial president of Coldiretti Cosenza and national delegate of Coldiretti young entrepreneurs.
The first conference entitled “Biodiversity, identity of the territory and of Taste” is curated by Gino Vulcano of Coldiretti. The second Panel entitled “Enhancement of Fig Cultivation” is curated by the agronomist Mario Reda.
Music and Entertainment
At 8:30 pm, in Piazzale Santuario, the food and wine stands will offer tasting tours of typical local products. There will also be musical events and entertainment with Shqiponjat, Castrum, street artists and Fantasilandia: the amusement park for children.
