The driver of the van which, around 8pm yesterday, hit a man in Scalea, in the Cosentino area, on Highway 18, causing his death, has turned himself in, before driving away without providing assistance. He is an Italian resident in the area. The man showed up at the Scalea police station accompanied by his lawyer.
Previously the military had identified the abandoned van not far from the site of the tragedy, tracing the identity of the person driving, who turned out not to be the owner of the vehicle, but simply the user. The carabinieri then informed the Public Prosecutor’s Office of Paola. The victim, Salvatore Servidio, a 47-year-old from Grisolia, married and father of two daughters, had gotten out of his car to help another motorist, whose vehicle had broken down on the state road in a poorly lit spot.
