The path towards definitively overcoming the Scordovillo Roma camp continues. The prefect of Catanzaro, Castrese De Rosa, chaired a new meeting of the Control Room, in the presence of the Undersecretary of the Interior Wanda Ferro, the mayor of Lamezia Terme, the representatives of the Calabria Region, Don Giacomo Panizza (always close to social issues), the commissioner Aterp Calabria, the police commissioner Linares and the leaders of the police force.
During the meeting, the timetable of the activities already started in the external area was examined, with completion scheduled for December, the month in which – thanks to the available savings – the demolition of the shacks and fencing of the site operations could also begin, essential steps for the subsequent reclamation.
However, demolitions will only be able to begin after identifying housing solutions for Roma families, a work in progress by the Calabria Region and the Progetto Sud association, committed to supporting and inserting families into new living contexts.
Prefect De Rosa underlined that the table “represents a fundamental step before the reclamation”, and that the overall plan also aims to guarantee social protection and safety in the area, to avoid new settlements and ensure dignified accommodation for the families of Scordovillo.
