Guaranteeing what is written in the DCA and strengthening the staff of the mountain hospital unit, these are the main requests reiterated by the mayor Alfredo Barillari to the new commissioner of the ASP of Vibo Valentia Gianfranco Tomeo. The former prefect visited Serra San Bruno where he was welcomed into the municipal house by the mayor for a discussion on various situations concerning the services and structures of the health company in the capital of the Vibo area. An opportunity to take stock of the situation also on what is bringing results to the population of the district: the home delivery service of medicines and the newly created AFT for general practitioners, the recently completed installation of a latest generation CT scan.
“The commitment to collaborate with the ASP has never failed – explains Mayor Barillari – at the same time we continue to strongly ask, together with the other mayors of the area and citizens attentive to public health issues, for greater attention first and foremost for the San Bruno hospital”. The mayor goes into detail on the topics: “The internal medicine department is exhausted, with few doctors who are committed to guaranteeing an essential service of the hospital. San Bruno has 19 internal medicine beds to which 2 therapeutic dh beds are added: with other doctors we could reach 25 beds but currently with 3 shift doctors we are faced with a situation that risks compromising the quality of care. These are problems that have already been highlighted to the company healthcare director, Dr. Lazzaro, whose understanding and dedication we appreciate, but we need to find a short-term solution, perhaps avoiding discrepancies and starting competitions or mobility notices.”
Another point that has always been underlined is the presence of cutting-edge operating rooms which, however, have been closed for years: “It’s incredible how surgical stations like this are not used.” For Barillari “day surgery operations could be carried out, as foreseen by the commissioner decree, on the one hand characterizing and strengthening the hospital, on the other increasing the number of operations of the company which would thus prevent the citizens of the province from going elsewhere and also from attracting other patients who have experience of very long waiting lists from other terrors, such as the Catanzaro area thanks to the Serre crossroads”.
Commissioner Tomeo, underlining that the Serra hospital deserves great attention given its strategic position for the communities of the entire mountain area, invited the mayor to an even more in-depth meeting with the technicians and commissioners of the ASP at the company’s offices, while highlighting that the main problem is finding medical figures who can guarantee health services.
“We will organize the meeting shortly – says the mayor – broadening the discussion to all the parties who are unitedly carrying forward the battle on public health in the area, such as the San Bruno committee.”
