New inspection by the mayor of Cosenza Franz Caruso at the construction site of the Serra Spiga-Mendicino connection road to verify the progress of the works on the road infrastructure whose interventions began last March. The work is considered one of the most awaited by residents of the neighborhood and the entire urban area.
During the visit, the mayor was able to see the regular progress of the works already carried out and those currently underway, reiterating the strategic importance of the intervention, intended to improve vehicular circulation and address problems that have affected city mobility for years.
«We respect the timetable»
«Today’s visit to the construction site confirms that we are respecting the timetable and, above all, that a work that has been awaited for decades is finally becoming reality» declared Franz Caruso.
«When we took office – he added – we made a precise commitment to the citizens of Serra Spiga and to all those who are forced to deal with the difficulties of traffic in this area on a daily basis. Today we can affirm, with facts and not with words, that that commitment has also been kept. The Serra Spiga-Mendicino road does not just represent a road connection, but is the symbol of a different way of administering the city.”
According to the mayor, the intervention represents the transition from a planning phase that remained unfinished for a long time to the concrete creation of an infrastructure destined to impact the quality of life of citizens.
The role of AIAS and the new roads
Franz Caruso also highlighted the contribution of the AIAS – Cosenza Section, which gave the Municipality free of charge a stretch of land necessary for the construction of the road parallel to via Berlinguer.
«I renew my feeling of profound gratitude to AIAS – underlined the mayor – for a gesture of extraordinary civic sensitivity which made it possible to give a decisive acceleration to the intervention. Thanks to this collaboration it will be possible to definitively eliminate the existing traffic light and create a new, more modern, efficient and safe road system.”
In fact, the project involves the construction of a new artery parallel to Via Berlinguer and an overall reorganization of vehicular circulation, with the aim of making traffic more fluid and reducing travel times for residents and motorists coming from the Serre area and heading towards the urban center of Cosenza.
Investments for the regeneration of Serra Spiga
The intervention is part of a broader urban redevelopment program that the municipal administration is carrying out in the Serra Spiga district.
«This infrastructure – concluded Franz Caruso – is part of an overall urban regeneration strategy that we are carrying out in Serra Spiga with unprecedented investments. We are talking about a program of interventions worth a total of around 20 million euros and which aims to restore full urban dignity to a neighborhood that for years has been relegated to the margins of development policies.”
The inspection confirmed the administration’s attention towards a work considered a priority and destined to represent one of the most significant infrastructural interventions in recent years for the northern area of the city.
