Painted glass cards, in which the sculptural concept is always potential, starting from the literal rewriting of some sculptures already known to widen the repertoire of possibilities: it is the 47 pictorial works that make up the exhibition “Painted sculpture. Transpositions on glass paper” by the artist Antonio Saladino, on display from April 5 inside the architectural frame of the Archaeological Museum of Lamezia Terme.
Promoted by the Regional Directorate Calabria Museums, created in collaboration with the Archaeological Museum of Lamezia Terme, with the patronage of the Municipality of Lamezia Terme and the coordination of the Castalia Association, the exhibition also has an intimate value, as it takes place in the place where Saladin has taken the first steps as an artist. “For me it is an honor to exhibit in my hometown and in this prestigious museum. In this monumental complex, in the early 70s, I made her debut with my first personal” declares the ceramist, sculptor and painter Lametino.
The exposure unfolds in three essential nuclei – recreational, introspective and spiritual – along the common thread of creativity as well as the various possibilities of intersection that are created between one thematic area and the other, urged by symbols, metaphorical forms and concrete geometries. Visual associations that do not refuse the interference of the word as an additional vehicle of the meaning, letting the title, never didactic but certainly very indicative, also participate in the game of revelations.
“Over his artistic production, Saladin has implemented a semantic break through his ceramics, in an objects reinterpreted, where it is not only the three -dimensional figuration that occupies the first floor of meaning and space, but also the syntactic coordination capacity of the surface, of the material skin, of the cavities and therefore of the capacity” declares Elisabetta Longo, curator of the exhibition in which sculptural objects are catapulted. In the present from the archaeological repertoire, taking on rational or metaphorical forms of another reality.
As the title of the exhibition states, a real transposition takes place: the sculptural is transferred to the sandpaper that doubles its hieratic force because it disarnsions and relies on the original use of the support and the vivid material essence that transpires naturally.
“The artist expresses his linguistic research in a refined narrative full of suggestions poised between art and archeology, in an interesting visual and aesthetic experience, evoking the magnogrecce origins of the Calabrian culture” comments Longo.
Therefore, the exhibition of the most recent pictorial production of Saladin could only take place in the museum structure Lametina who, as the director Simona Bruni highlights, “furrows the common thread of his artistic path, between the research and expression of an identity that dialogues with its time, its history and its territory”.
It is a cultural operation that intends to contribute to increasing, especially in the public of non -experts, the awareness of a familiarity with the languages and tools of the art of one’s time. “We aim to create new ways of enjoying the museum, archaeological by vocation but which stands like cultural hub In which to invite artists and professionals of culture to collaborate within an interdisciplinary framework, consolidating the synergy with the local institutions and the association world “Chiosa Bruni, renewing the invitation to the vernissage to be held on Saturday 5 April, at 5.30 pm, introduced by a presentation conference. The artistic journey between the past and present will continue until May 5: the exhibition will be open from Tuesday to Sunday, from 9 to 19.
