Sicily, from the Region 108 million for metropolitan cities and free consortia

The Region assigns 108 million euros to metropolitan cities and free municipal consortia of Sicily to “guarantee full administrative and operational functionality, especially as regards fundamental services such as provincial road and school building”. The distribution reports a note, was made with a decree signed by the regional councilors for the public function and local autonomies, Andrea Messinaand the economy, Alessandro Dagnino.

The criteria for subdivision of resources have taken into consideration the resident population, the number of school classes present in the territory, the territorial extension and the length of the road network of competence. In detail they are 57,348,275.45 euros for the three metropolitan cities (22,568,394.92 euros in Palermo, 15,166,110.47 euros in Messina and 19,613,770.06 euros in Catania) and 50,651,724.55 euros for the free consortia of Agrigento (10,454,806.58 euros), Caltanissetta (7,486,021.83 euros), Enna (6,593,323.54 euros), Ragusa (6,674,878.84 euros), Syracuse (9,780,982.05 euros) (9,661,711.71 euros).

The resources will allow entities to effectively exercise the fundamental functions attributed to them by the rules, ensuring continuity and quality in services to citizens, in a crucial phase for the relaunch of local autonomies in Sicily. “This is a strategic measure – declares the commissioner Messina – who confirms the commitment of the Region in supporting the intermediate bodies.

With the recent renewal of the organs of the free consortia and metropolitan cities, however, a new political and administrative phase opens: these resources immediately offer new provincial representatives the concrete possibility of intervening in a timely and targeted way, responding to the needs of the territories. Investing in the functionality of these entities means guaranteeing continuity in the essential services of the communities, from the maintenance of provincial roads to the management of high schools ».
