One hundred and forty million euros to push the growth of the productive fabric and support local authorities in Sicily. It is the total amount of the soon-to-open tenders, financed by European and national funds, presented in Messina during the sixth stage of «Cohesion Opportunities». The cycle of territorial meetings is promoted by the Planning department of the Presidency of the Region to illustrate the possibilities offered by the ERDF and the FSC 2021-2027 in the provinces of the island. The event, hosted in the headquarters of the Chamber of Commerce and moderated by representatives of the department led by Vincenzo Falgares, who opened the proceedings via video link, saw the participation of local administrators, representatives of the production sector, professional associations and social partners.
Measures for businesses and local authorities
In the two information sessions, dedicated to businesses and local authorities, the general manager of the Productive Activities department, Dario Cartabellotta, and representatives of the Family and social policies and Tourism, sport and entertainment departments spoke, who focused on the upcoming activation notices financed with resources from the 2021-2027 FESR programme, for a total of 100 million euros, and from the Cohesion Agreement-FSC 2021-2027, for another 40 million.
In the ERDF context, there was talk of «Sicily innovation», a measure that aims to promote the birth of medium and small start-ups: the tender will also include interventions selected by coalitions of Municipalities with the resources provided for the territorial policies of the program. There was also talk of «Ripresa Sicilia II», a notice that will support investments for the competitiveness of the production system.
For the section dedicated to institutions, the tender was presented which, as part of the “Housing” priority introduced with the recent mid-term review, will finance projects presented by the Municipalities in synergy with the third sector, for the renovation and redevelopment of properties aimed at expanding the offer of accommodation for homeless people or those with serious socio-economic hardship. On the FSC side, however, again within the local authorities, the notice for the strengthening of sports facilities was illustrated.
The interventions in the Messina area and the next stop in Catania
Representatives of the Municipality of Messina, the lead body of the relevant Functional Urban Area (Fua), then spoke, retracing the process carried out by the territorial coalition for the selection of interventions to be implemented with resources from the 2021-2027 Fesr Pr.
The fourth edition of the «Fesr Sicily: Europe tells its story» journalism award was also presented, organized by the Programming department and the regional Order of Journalists. An information corner was then set up for the Asoc-A Scuola di OpenCoesione initiative, which involves Sicilian students in civic monitoring activities on cohesion policy funds and sees the island among the five national partners. «Opportunity Cohesion» continues tomorrow with the seventh stage in Catania, again from 10am to 1.30pm, in the conference room of the PalaRegione in via Beato Bernardo.
