Silver tapes: documentary prize on the Cutro massacre

The Calabria Film Commission wins the 2025 silver ribbon, section “Cinema del Reale”, with the documentary Cutro Calabria Italy by Mimmo Calopresti.
At the award ceremony, held in Rome, at the Barberini cinema, the president, Anton Giulio Grande, and the project manager, Giampaolo Calabrese, were present for Calabria Film Commission. Produced by Alfa Multimedia for Calabria Film Commission that wanted to entrust the story of the tragedy of Cutro to the direction of Mimmo Calopresti but, above all, to demonstrate the ability of the Calabrians to welcome and show all humanity and welcome before needing.
The documentary tells the facts of February 26, 2023, when an old wooden caraco, with 180 migrants on board, was wrecked to the spa of Cutro, in the province of Crotone.
In front of the hip tragedy, the Cutresi and the whole local population did not remain indifferent, they opened their homes and hearts, as from brother to brother.
The director told and documented, with a safe narrative style, the consequences of the shipwreck and the solidarity and the sense of effective responsibility of the Calabrian institutions and the people of Calabria. This is the director’s comment after the announcement of the prize: “Cutro Calabria Italia is not only a documentary that does not want to make forget, but also the extraordinary participation of the Calabrians to try to give solidarity to that poor people who came from Turkey. Cutro Calabria Italy – concludes Calopresti – is the cinema that is made reality, in order to share the need for people of a humanity that no one can turn off “.
The silver ribbon announced today comes to the seal of the documentary promotion work, both in the festivals and on the Rai channels, certifying the quality path of Calabria Film Commission, after the Golden Bear in Berlin in 2023 for “The Good Mothers” and the prizes in several Italian and international festivals.
