Jannik Sinner prophet in his homeland. The 23-year-old Italian tennis player, number one in the world, won the ATP Finals, staged at the Inalpi Arena in Turin. In today’s final the South Tyrolean defeated the American Taylor Fritz, number 5 in the international ranking, 27 years old, with a score of 6-4 6-4. An impeccable success for the blue, the result of five victories, three in the group, plus yesterday’s semi-final and today’s final act, all achieved in two sets. Not since 1986 has a tennis player won the Masters at the end of the year without losing a partial result: the last one to do so was Ivan Lendl 38 years ago in fact. Sinner’s incredible numbers, also confirmed in today’s final. Fritz was effectively knocked out, already beaten in the second match of the group stage of these Finals. The tennis player from San Diego, defeated by the Italian also in the final of the recent US Open, was unable to do anything against the “extreme power” of the South Tyrolean, also supported by the Italian supporters of the packed Turin facility. The South Tyrolean never lost his serve, also with 14 aces; on the other hand he broke the serve from the American in the seventh and decisive game of the first set and in the fifth (and also decisive) game of the second set. Final result therefore identical to that of Tuesday’s match, again against Fritz: double 6-4 in favor of Sinner, with a break per set.
For the blue, defeated in the final last year by Novak Djokovic, it is the first success in the Finals. For the South Tyrolean it is the 18th title of his career, the eighth of this splendid 2024, which opened with the triumph at the Australian Open, continued with the victory at the US Open and with today’s high, coming just a few days before the start of the Final Eight of the Davis Cup. In Malaga, from Thursday, Sinner will try to drag the blue team to success again, as he did last year, bringing the legendary salad bowl back to Italy 47 years after the first, historic Italian success, achieved by Adriano Panatta and his companions in 1976 .

Sinner: “Special moment For me”

«It’s a special moment, because it means a lot to win in front of this incredible audience. I tried to find a better key than last year, today there was more tension. I am happy to share this with the Italian public.” These are Jannik Sinner’s first words after his success at the ATP Finals in Turin.
