Emma Aicher wins the second downhill race in Sankt Moritz, Switzerland, valid for the 2025/2026 Women’s Alpine Skiing World Cup. The young German achieved her second career victory in the downhill and third overall, thanks to a time of 1’30″50. Behind her was the American Lindsey Vonn, second at 0″24, and Sofia Goggia, third at 0″29, with the Italian making up for the fourth place obtained in yesterday’s race.

Good placings for the blues

Compared to the first descent, Laura Pirovano also improved, protagonist of a solid race which earned her sixth place at 0″76 from the winner. Also in points, but further away, were Roberta Melesi, 24th at 1″73, and Elena Curtoni, 28th at 2″00. Nicol Delago (33rd), Nadia Delago (38th), Sara Thaler (41st) and Vicky Bernardi (49th) finished in thirtieth position. Asja Zenere instead exited the race in the third sector.

The words of Sofia Goggia

At the end of the race, Sofia Goggia commented on her performance as follows: «I’m happy with my skiing and my attitude, a shame about the long curve to the right at the end: I entered quickly but I wasn’t able to reverse well. I am satisfied with the performance and the podium. In the last two months I have only been able to do giant slalom, because the conditions in North America did not allow downhill training.”

The Italian then spent words of appreciation for Lindsey Vonn: «It’s always nice to see her in the race. A champion like that helps all of us to raise the bar, it’s an extra incentive. It’s nice to be on the podium together, even if we both want to win.”
