MammutTeatro from Calabria flies to Milan thanks to the show «Smart Work».right where his work is set, establishing himself in the Italian independent theater scene. Directed by Gianluca Vetromilo and starring Francesco Rizzo, the show recently won the Winners Award at the Milan Off Fringe Festival 2024, a recognition that will bring the Calabrian theater company to “Il Respiro del Pubblico” by Cantiere Obraz in Florence next November 22nd and, in spring, at the Sambuca Theater in Sicily.
Appreciation for «Smart work» also arrives at the Catania Off Fringe Festivalwhich was staged at the Mercato di Piazza Scammacca, and which received the special mention from Steve Gove for the Prague Fringe Festival.
«Smart Work», written by Gianluca Vetromilo and Armando Canzonieri, sensitively explores the theme of today’s fragmented work, describing the typical day of a young person who struggles through life’s adversities, not finding the time to live it: in the morning operator of a call center, in the evening drivers who deliver pizzas. In a historical moment in which jobs are precarious, rents are unsustainable and personal autonomy is an illusion: a life of running, cycling, where the word “unforeseen” resonates like the worst of tragedies. «Smart Work» questions the viewer: can life exhaust itself in an endless routine? The answer is entrusted to a representation that balances irony and bitter awareness, leading the audience to reflect on the possibility of transforming “surviving” into “living”, even if only for a brief moment.
After the success of Milan and Catania, MammutTeatro will be on stage at the Quarticciolo Library Theater in Rome for the semi-finals of the Tuttoteatro.com Prize for the Performing Arts “Dante Cappelletti” 2024 with the new work, «Emilia e Basta». In Calabria, the next stop of «Smart Work» will be in Castrovillari, on the 16th and 17th, host of the VI edition of the ImPollino review of the Teatro della Chimera.
