Last hours of words, of promises, probably of poisons, and then electoral silence will descend. A long, too often harsh electoral campaign ends tonight at midnight, not without anomalies compared to the past: very few posters have appeared in the city, the propaganda spaces set up by the Municipality have remained largely empty (the remains of posters from past electoral campaigns are visible), the stage made available by the Municipality in Piazza Cairoli has only been used by children to play on and will only host the final rally of one of the candidates for mayor, Gaetano Sciacca, at the photo finish this afternoon.
The squares were not the protagonists, at least not as in the past, and will only “light up” for the closing of tonight’s election campaigns: in addition to the aforementioned Sciacca, the centre-right candidate Marcello Scurria will greet his voters in Piazza Casa Pia, starting from 7pm; the final rally of Antonella Russo, candidate of the Centre-left, who has chosen Piazza Lo Sardo, will begin at 8pm; will close the evening, probably on the border of midnight, Federico Basile from the South calls the North, in Piazza Duomo starting from 10pm. No public meetings, however, for Lillo Valvieri, the outsider of this session, who will give his last speech… on TikTok and on Facebook, from 9.30pm. After all, social media were the true protagonists of an electoral campaign that featured a lot of “virtual” moments. Also today, the last television confrontation between the mayoral candidates, guests of “Scirocco”, will be broadcast on Rtp, at 3.15pm (and a repeat at 8.30pm).
Then, precisely, silence will fall before the vote on Sunday and Monday. A silence which, by law, also envelops the latest survey commissioned by the South calling the North to the Swg company, whose questions, however, were at the center of yet another clash in this long eve of the polls.
