Filippo Arlia returns to New York with two concerts and two different interpretations of Astor Piazzolla, a symphony and a chambermother. The Calabrian master, among the most appreciated conductors and pianists of his generation, will be the protagonist of two musical events, one on June 7 on the podium of the Carnegie Hall as conductor, the other on June 15th at the Centro Center as a pianist.

At Carnegie will direct the New England Symphonic Ensemble with a tribute to Piazzolla, performing the concert for Bandoneón and Orchestra and Adiós Nonino. “These are two works full of passion and poignant beauty – explained Arlia to Ansa -. In my career, the Argentine composer has had and has a very particular meaning. I am a classic musician who has dedicated a lot of study to his repertoire, now I want to be as close as possible to the most mature pitch, in the last years of his life, when he started with the electronic and then with the acoustic tools. Furthermore, his father was Apulian origins (Trani, ed) and therefore has something Italian in his writing music ».

The second concert will be held on June 15, at the Centro Center for Classical Music, inside the jazz festival pepper program, a review that promotes Italian and Calabrian musical culture in the world, with particular attention to the contamination between genres and artistic languages. ‘Duettango X5’ is scheduled, a musical experience that blends the sounds of Argentine tango with jazz improvisation. Arlia will sit on the piano flanked by prominent musicians including Marco Gemelli al Bandoneón, Andrea Timpanaro at the violin and Glauco di Sabatino on drums. “In this case – explains Arlia – there is no orchestra but a group of tango and it is not a symphonic concert, but chamber and will be very close to jazz and blues”.

Born in ’89 and native of Cosenza, Arlia studied piano at the Vibo Valentia Conservatory where she graduated at just 17 years old. In his career he has already held more than 500 concerts as a soloist and director in more than 30 countries in the world and a significant part of his career is linked to Astor Piazzolla’s music. From his idea, in 2008 the ‘Duettango’ project was born with the Bandoneonista Cesare Chiarchiaretta and with which he also presented his first live record in Rai Radio 3 in 2017 for the Quirinale concerts in Rome. He has more than 20 albums and has directed musicians such as Stefano Bollani, Sergej Krylov, Yuri Shishkin, Michel Camilo, Sergei Nakariakov, Ilya Grubert, Danilo Rea, Giovanni Sollima, Eugenio Bennato.
