«The success of the peace initiative launched by the President of the United States could truly constitute a historic turning point that changes the face of the Middle East and therefore the Mediterranean. A success still tied by a thread, there are many variables that have not yet been defined, from the return of the bodies of the murdered hostages to the actual methods of dismantling the Hamas military structure. However, that thread of hope is proving to be solid because it interprets the desire for peace of populations who have suffered greatly on both sides. Hence many, too many innocent victims and many survivors who ask for food, medical care and above all security and hope for the future of their land. Today this is the great hope that appears. That future may finally be within reach.” Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani said this in his briefing to the Chamber.

Tajani talks about fighting anti-Semitism, bipartisan applause

Bipartisan applause from the deputies in the Chamber at the words of the Foreign Minister, Tajani, on the fight against anti-Semitism and on the death of the three carabinieri in yesterday’s explosion in the Veronese area. Sitting on the government benches, in addition to the head of the Farnesina, are Matteo Perego, undersecretary of Defense; Tullio Ferrante, undersecretary for Infrastructure and Giorgio Silli, undersecretary for Foreign Affairs.

Anti-Semitism is «a monstrous prejudice which, however, has unfortunately resurfaced, demonstrating – underlined the Foreign Minister – that the memory of the tragedy of 80 years ago is no longer sufficient to keep away the echo of the most hateful of racial prejudices. Stopping its spread and repressing any demonstration is a solemn commitment that the government makes in this Chamber. Unfortunately, yesterday evening in Udine too, violent pro-PAL extremists attacked the police because they wanted to prevent the Italy-Israel football match from taking place.”
