The carabinieri of the Taormina company arrested a 38 -year -old Romanian citizen, homeless in Italy, on which a European arrest warrant (Mae) was hanging issued by the judicial authorities of Romania. The man had been sentenced to 11 years of imprisonment for serious crimes, including theft, robbery and drug trafficking.

The detention took place in recent days in the center of Taormina, where the military of the local station, suspicious of the lack of documents and the general information provided by the man, accompanied him to the barracks for further investigations. The checks revealed that the 38 -year -old was the recipient of an order for pre -trial detention in prison, issued by the Court of Appeal of Catania, in aggravation of the previous measure of house arrest, arranged in more of his extradition.

The measure arose following the evasion of man from the locality of Syracusan where he had been placed under house arrest, which had also led to his declaration of hiding.

At the end of the formalities, the wanted man was translated at the Messina Gazzi prison, where he will remain restricted pending the extradition procedure and his delivery to the Romanian authorities.
