Taormina, capital of tourism in Southern Italy, but the case of illegal guides is taking center stage

An increase of +624% in tourist volumes compared to summer 2019, which allows it to significantly surpass Capri (+156%). This is attested by the data released by Global Blue, which crown Taormina as the tourism capital of Southern Italy. In recent years, the Pearl has attracted over 200 million euros of investments in the luxury hotel and high-end retail sectors: large international brands such as Louis Vuitton, Dior, Loro Piana and Dolce & Gabbana have chosen the city as a showcase of excellence and 2026 will see the arrival of new prestigious brands, consolidating Taormina’s positioning among the most sought-after destinations in world tourism, especially by foreign visitors high spenders.
