Launch every useful activity aimed at recovering tax evasion and combating local tax avoidance, ensuring the correct and regular functioning of the Tax Office for greater efficiency and effectiveness of administrative action. This is the need expressed by the Executive of Taormina, which has approved a new address act to give further impetus to the activity of fighting tax evasion.
The Council, on the proposal of the Councilor for the Budget Giuseppe Sterrantino, has resolved to give the mandate to the head of the Economic-Financial-Revenue Area, Angela La Torre, to start the management procedures to provide the Tax Office (IMU, TARI and water fee) with adequate specialist technical-IT support for ordinary management activities, investigation and updating of practices, databases, maintenance and updating of taxpayer archives, roles, for the activities of verification and recovery of municipal revenues.
A decision linked to the urgency of having to ensure the timely adoption of the measures necessary to guarantee the regular performance of the activity of assessment and collection of revenues, with the methods and within the terms established by law, in order to avoid the prescription of tax credits, an outcome that according to the Administration would cause serious damage to the treasury and assets of the Institution. For some time now, specific service provisions have been dictated to the heads of the Tax Office regarding legal obligations, proceeding with the processing, issuing of executive assessment notices or reminders relating to each tax, indicating the operating methods and terms within which to approve the related load lists.
Once again, therefore, Palazzo dei Giurati will turn to the outside, as happened in 2023, since “the Municipality’s staff, constantly decreasing over the years – it is highlighted in the resolution – does not allow for the ordinary and verification activity of local taxes to be carried out with efficiency, effectiveness and the timeliness that the current situation requires”.
