Incentivize citizens to adopt virtuous behavior in waste management by rewarding them with discounts on the Tari. This is the proposal made by the councilor of the third district Alessandro Geraci of the 5 Star Movement, which filed a motion aimed at modifying the Tari regulation of the Municipality of Messina.

In the motion, Geraci highlights how the cumbersome waste withdrawal service, despite being guaranteed by Messina Servizi Bene Comune, is not always able to satisfy requests quickly. Hence the need to encourage direct transfer to the ecological islands, discouraging illegal abandonments and promoting more efficient management of the service.

The councilor proposes to introduce a reduction on the Tari for domestic users who personally give their waste in the ecological islands, with a discount between 1 and 3 euros per piece delivered, up to an annual contribution limit. In addition, the motion asks to eliminate the minimum threshold of per capita kilograms for the awarding of recyclable materials.

According to Geraci, the implementation of this measure would bring a double benefit: on the one hand a reduction in costs for the collection company, with lower recovery interventions in the area, on the other a saving for citizens, rewarded for their commitment in the correct disposal of waste.

«It is necessary – explains Geraci – reward those who respect the rules and actively participate in the improvement of urban decorum. A small economic incentive can make a difference and stimulate a cultural change towards a cleaner and more sustainable city ».
