On the topic of duties and the US Supreme Court’s rejection of the measures wanted by Trump, the opposition attacks Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.

“Meloni, who always has something to say and a video to make whether it’s the comedian Pucci or spreading fake news about the referendum, has nothing to say about Trump’s tariffs declared illegitimate and the US President’s relaunch of new tariffs? For once, let’s make some strong decisions? Do we react? Is anyone there?”. Thus on Facebook the president of the M5S Giuseppe Conte.

«It is incredible that Giorgia Meloni is practically the only European prime minister who has not yet expressed her opinion after the rejection of Trump’s tariffs by the US Supreme Court, asking for a stop to the tariffs. She is now even more Trumpian than Trump himself. Meloni is on the wrong side of history, with Trump against the EU, Italy and our companies.” This was declared by the secretary of Più Europa Riccardo Magi.

«It is news recently that Trump has decided to raise duties on all products to 15% to which the basic duty of the ‘most favored nation’ according to international regulations must be added. This is a clear violation of the EU-US agreement which provides for a maximum all-inclusive duty of 15%, excluding special cases such as steel, aluminum and cars”. This was stated in a note by PD MEP Brando Benifei, president of the delegation for relations with the United States of the European Parliament and S&D coordinator for international trade.
“With this new imposition, based on the use of a different regulation than that called into question by the Supreme Court ruling, many agricultural and clothing products will already be taxed well above 15% and uncertainty will remain for others. In these conditions no advancement of the agreement can be brought to a vote in the European Parliament and a reaction will be necessary to this behavior which damages the stability and certainty of the conditions for our companies and our workers and for the American ones, objectives that we had set ourselves together with the European Commission in dealing with the complex trade relations with the new American administration”, he adds.
