The sculptor of Calabrian origins died in Rome Silvio Amelio. He was 83 years old. Born in Taverna, in the province of Catanzaro, he moved to the capital at a very young age where he lived and worked, also making important trips abroad. A student of Umberto MastroianniAmelio has collaborated with the artist for several years, acquiring considerable technical experience. He has always maintained contact with his hometown where many of his artistic creations are present both in the urban fabric and inside the Civic Museum, and with Calabria as demonstrated by the many works dedicated to artists such as his fellow citizen Mattia Preti, Corrado Alvaro And Umberto Boccioni. Many of his works are of a religious nature, one of which is dedicated to Natuzza Evolo and was inaugurated a few years ago in the Sila area of Catanzaro.
«The management of the Civic Museum and the Municipal Administration of Taverna – it is written in a press release – pay homage to the artist Silvio Amelio who passed away today. A multifaceted and complex personality who through his creative genius was able to cross the cultural boundaries of his native place. His sculptures, donated and permanently installed in the urban centre of Taverna, together with the numerous works destined for the room dedicated to him, already being set up in the new contemporary art section of the museum, constitute the tangible and lasting sign of his true “return”, beyond the limits of time and human existence.». The funeral will take place in Rome in the church of Santa Maria della Provvidenza on Monday 15 July.
