The regional councilor and group leader of the 5 Star Movement, Davide Tavernisepresented three urgent questions which will be discussed during the Regional Council called on 21 January to shed light on “a now unsustainable situation: the delays in the works of important infrastructures for the Sibaritide. We are talking about the electrification of the Sibari-Crotone railway, the modernization of the SS106 Sibari-Coserie and the reopening of the Strada Sila Mare it needs modern and efficient public works to guarantee the development of the territory and improve the quality of life of citizens”.
The electrification of the Sibari-Crotone railway, “a work awaited for years, is still blocked despite the commissioning of the works. It is incomprehensible that, despite the suspension of traffic for works linked to the activation of the ERTMS, the electrification of the line is still blocked. The reopening, initially scheduled for January, apparently will not take place before June. Calabria has been waiting for this work for years, which is fundamental for improving regional mobility and reducing pollution.
We also record delays and institutional silences on the construction of the SS106 Sibari-Coserie section. The services conference concluded positively in June 2024, in December the ministry allocated the funds necessary for its completion, yet the signing of the agreement between Anas and the Calabria Region has not yet arrived. An incomprehensible delay, which continues to put the safety of citizens at risk. While other regions have already modernized their sections of the 106, Calabria is at a standstill, with a dramatic toll also in terms of human lives.”
And last but not least, there is the issue relating to the Strada Sila Mare. “Here too we were waiting for the road to reopen in January but no news has arrived on the matter, leaving entire communities still isolated today in despair. The collapse of the Ortiano II viaduct has aggravated an already critical situation, leading to the isolation of Longobucco and the surrounding municipalities Despite the green light from the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport for the use of 9 million euros and the reassurances received, the timetable was not respected.
With these questions I intend to bring to the attention of public opinion and institutions a situation that can no longer be tolerated. I ask the Region to intervene decisively to unblock these three different problems and guarantee citizens a better future.”
