The Sport Department of the Calabria Region, led by the Councilor Caterina Capponi, It expresses its recognition and full support for the celebratory event promoted by the body of the Port Authorities – Coast Guard, on the occasion of the 160th anniversary of its foundation.
The event, which will take place on Monday 30 June 2025, will start at 7:30 with the departure of the athletes from Punta Faro, Messina, and will end with the arrival in Cannitello – Villa San Giovanni, on the Calabrian bank of the Strait.
The protagonists of the crossing will be about 15 Paralympic athletes, supported by National and International Winders and by the staff of the specialist components of the Coast Guard. Together they will swim to send a strong message of inclusion, participation and demolition of barriers, showing that the passion for the sea can unite anyone who loves it.
“We are proud – declares the commissioner Capponi – to recognize the profound value of this initiative and to support it concretely. Sport is a universal language that unites, inspires and reduce the walls of diversity. The sea, so central in our Calabrian identity, becomes the ideal theater to celebrate equality and courage”.
The initiative, organized with the support of the Italian Paralympic Committee and the Italian Paralympic Swimming Federation, will be told by a special Rai service and will see the participation of the well -known conductor Massimiliano Ossinias evidence of the event.
The athletes on arrival will welcome the beach in front of the Marinaro Museum of Cannitello, where institutional stands will be set up for the promotion of sport and health, in a context open to citizenship and full of human and social meaning.
The Calabria Region, through its Department of Sport, reaffirms its commitment in favor of all the initiatives that promote inclusion, solidarity and well -being through sport.
