Comforting data, but uncertain prospects. The GDP of the southern regions grew by 12.7% in the three-year period 2021-2023, approaching the exceptional growth seen at a national level (13.7%). Also in terms of employment, the South recorded a decidedly positive performance with an increase in employment of +7%, higher than the national average (+5.3%). A result that has contributed to reducing the unemployment rate in an area that has historically recorded higher values ​​than the national average. The national vice-president of ANCE and president of Confindustria Cosenza, Giovambattista Perciaccante However, he looks to the future with a certain skepticism. «The Southern Contribution Relief extended to all employees with a place of work in the regions of Southern Italy, regardless of the registered office of the company to which they belong – states Perciaccante – represented effective and concrete support for all Italian companies that have decided to operate in the regions of the South. Furthermore, the possibility of benefiting from lower labor costs has certainly contributed to the emergence of illegal work, favoring the regularization of numerous workers and making the production context healthier and more competitive. Even on the National Recovery and Resilience Plan side, the measure has given a significant boost to the start of huge investments which for the South are worth 80 billion euros, of which around 45 are for investments of interest to the construction sector”.
