“Performing” returns to Catanzaro and does so with a series of in-depth meetings dedicated to the students of the Academy of Fine Arts in the Calabrian capital. The “Art Talks” workshop week, this is the name of the event, will start on Monday 18 November with an introductory appointment in which the students will approach the first two guests of the week: Mario Laporta And Sofia Uslenghi.
Laporta he teaches photography at the Fine Arts Academies of Frosinone and Naples, has been a photojournalist for 35 years and boasts collaborations for Reuters, AFP and Getty Images. Founder of Controluce and KONTROLAB, he has documented conflicts and major national and international events. He has curated exhibitions, conferences and projects such as ArCCaDiA. Among his works: “Ketor Asti?”,”Ritual Images” And “Berlin 1989”. He won the Nikon Photo Contest and writes columns for Juorno.it.
UslenghiCalabrian by birth, grew up in Sicily, Lombardy and Emilia-Romagna. A photographer since the age of twenty, she began by focusing mainly on self-portraiture as a tool of expression and self-analysis. In his first projects he investigated the relationship with his own body and with the aesthetics of the feminine. The search for one’s roots, the sense of community and the nostalgia created during the numerous moves is instead at the center of the subsequent works. His works are exhibited at Paris Photo, Photo London and at Mia in Milan.
From 10am to 1pm on 18 November, in the Aula Magna of the Aba headquarters in viale Tommaso Campanella, the two artists will start the debate with the students of the Academy, introduced by the director Virgilio Piccari and guided by Simona Caramia, coordinator of the Visual Arts Department. From the afternoon, then, until November 20th, Laporta and Uslenghi will give life to workshops with the students. The first two appointments of the Art Talks workshop week are curated by the teachers Aba Simona Caramia and Giuseppe Negro.
The workshop week will continue with the artists’ seminars Paola Anziché, Daniele Galliano, Arianna Papini And Stefano Zorzanellorespectively curated by the teachers of ABA Catanzaro Dobrila Denegri, Francesco Sena, Riccardo Francaviglia And Gianluca Donati.
Paola Anziché (Milan, 1975), graduated from Brera and the Städelschule in Frankfurt, explores traditional weaving and biodiversity with natural fibres. Winner of the Italian Council 2023/24, she has exhibited in prestigious institutions in Italy and around the world and participated in international artistic residencies.
Daniele Galliano (Pinerolo, 1961), professor of Decoration at the Academy of Fine Arts in Turin, has already stood out since the 1990s for his “photographic realism”. He has exhibited in solo and group exhibitions around the world, participating in events such as the Venice Biennale and Havana. His works are in prestigious public and private collections.
Arianna Papini (Florence), was the editorial director of Fatatrac for 25 years, is a professor of Illustration at the ISIA in Urbino and a specialized art therapist. He has written and illustrated over 150 books, winning prizes such as the Andersen and the Compostela, with translations in several countries.
Stefano Zorzanello (Vicenza, 1969), is a professor of Sound Design at the Academy of Fine Arts in Catania. Musician, sound designer and scholar, graduated in flute and electronic music, he graduated from DAMS in Bologna. He has created music for theater and cinema, soundtracks for silent films, audio documentaries for RaiRadio3 and interactive sound installations in Italy and abroad.
Their workshops will start on November 21st with a presentation meeting (10 am, Aula Magna, viale T. Campanella) and will continue directly with the students until November 23rd. The entire exhibition is curated by the Visual Arts Department of the Academy of Fine Arts of Catanzaro.
