The handshake between Pope Leo IV and the auxiliary bishop of Messina Cesare Di Pietro. The meeting in the Basilica of San Pietro in Rome, on the occasion of the Jubilee of the Bishops.
“When families bring excessive weights and public institutions do not support them adequately; when young people are disappointed and nauseated of illusory messages; when the elderly and people with serious disabilities feel abandoned, the bishop is close and does not offer recipes, but the community experience trying to live the Gospel in simplicity and sharing”, Thus the pontiff urged the bishops. “Announceing that hope does not disappoint – continued Pope Leone means going against the current, even against the evidence of painful situations that seem without a way out”. The pontiff also recommended to the Presile “evangelical poverty, closeness and to maintain a firm and decisive attitude in cases of scandals”.
