Among the seven shows, coming from a wide range of works arriving from all over Italy, competing for the Museo Cervi-Teatro per la Memoria Award and the Gigi Dall’Aglio Award as part of the Festival di Resistenza, on stage in Gattatico, there is also “Umanità nova – Chronicle of a failed revolution” by the Carullo-Minasi companywhich tells the story of the Reggio Calabria riots and the events of a group of young people who, in the 70s, in Reggio, carried forward their ideals.
The show, which debuted during the 2023 edition of the Primavera dei Teatri Festival, in Castrovillari (Cosenza) will be on stage today, while on Thursday 25th, instead, the award ceremony of an event born over 20 years ago with the intent of innovating the languages of memory, which has become over time a privileged observatory on contemporary civil theater.
At the Festival di Resistenza hundreds of artists and companies from all over Italy and Europe have graced the stage of Casa Cervi, offering the public individual and collective stories, representations of the present and profound reflections. “For these reasons we are very happy and honored to have reached the final stage of this Festival – says Cristiana Minasi, director of the work that sees Giuseppe Carullo on stage, giving body and voice to the text written by playwright Fabio Pisano, a little-known page of history to be rediscovered and reflected upon because it is closely connected to our recent past – after each show there is then a precious space for discussion and sharing with the audience always attentive and receptive on these themes”.
In this hot summer, the Reggio-Messina Carullo-Minasi company will be the protagonist of other events around Italyto give voice and substance to the work that, for over 10 years now, has been carrying out through a multifaceted investigation into the issues of the present, exploring human relationships, the value of spaces that also become theatrical places, the themes of love, limits, identity, anarchy. «In fact, on August 18th in Novara di Sicilia, in the province of Messina, our “Due passi sono” will be on stage in a festival, the “Nov’Aria” that with attention and courage organizes moments of culture and sharing in a wonderful place. Last year we were there as spectators – continues Cristiana Minasi – now we are back with our show in the awareness of wanting to build other paths of investigation and insights together with them. Then we will be at the International Narration Festival in Arzo on August 23rd and August 24th, as part of the Festival, space will also be given to the conference on “Festival and anarchy”. We are very happy to bring to this place “Umanità nova- Cronaca di una mancata Rivoluzione” for which we are building a tour that will keep us busy in the coming months. We are also working on our new version of the myth of Colapesce, which will be a show for children directed by Giuseppe Carullo, on stage by Carullo, Martina Camano and Davide Colnaghi. While Asja Lacis, Latvian, avant-garde theater director, feminist, anarchist and revolutionary, will be the protagonist of the new work I am dedicating myself to – announces Minasi –, in this phase through a path of investigation and study, always to follow a thread linked to the theme of anarchy».
