There are hours of apprehension in Barcellona Pozzo di Gotto, due to the conditions of the two young people who were seriously injured in the accident which occurred during the night between Monday and Tuesday on the Marchesana seafront, in the Terme Vigliatore area. Our thoughts turn especially to the 19-year-old from Barcelona hospitalized in very serious conditions in the intensive care unit of the University Hospital of Messina. The 22-year-old boy who was apparently driving the scooter also remains in serious condition, but not life-threatening.
On the investigation front, detectives are trying to reconstruct every step of that night. Some of the people present on the seafront have already been interviewed by the carabinieri of the Barcelona station who are working on the case, under the direction of the chief prosecutor of Barcelona, Giuseppe Verzera. The investigators are also examining images and videos that show numerous young people on the edge of the road and scooters in motion, but also adults involved. Elements that strengthen the hypothesis, yet to be proven, that it was not a simple accident, but an illegal race. The Barcelona Public Prosecutor’s Office could soon proceed against some people, in particular the driver of the scooter to assess his position. The investigative lead appears to be that of a race organized between young people, which could be part of a circuit of illegal races already practiced in other areas of the territory, in other places. However, only the investigations entrusted to the Carabinieri will establish whether a race was actually taking place and who took part in it.
