The Court of Cassation rejected the appeal of the lawyers of the former rector of Messina Salvatore Cuzzocrea for the investigation into the inflated reimbursements. Therefore the interdictory measure of suspension from teaching in all universities in Italy for one year decided by the Review upon appeal by the Prosecutor’s Office has become effective. However, at present it has not yet been carried out because the former rector has not been found in Messina. Investigations by magistrates are underway.
The story therefore becomes tinged with “yellow”. The former rector has most likely flown to Portugal in recent days. Why? As we wrote in recent days, the online university newspaper JPN, Jornalismo Porto Net, specialized in information on the city of Porto and the academic activities of the university, in recent weeks had written, signed by Joana Cardoso, that Cuzzocrea was among the five candidates to succeed the previous rector of the University of Porto, António de Sousa Pereira. And that the hearings of the eligible candidates were scheduled for April 23 at 3 and 4.45 pm, and then for April 24 at 9, 10.45 am and 2 pm. And that the successor would be elected on April 24 at 4.30 pm, therefore today, during a meeting of the General Council of the University of Porto.
