Polisportiva Messina proudly carries forward an ambitious and laudable project, which goes beyond sport, aiming, in fact, to form a water polo team for physically disabled people. The idea comes from its president Massimo Giacoppo, water polo champion, who in his career has won numerous national and international titles and trophies and wore the silver medal at the London 2012 Olympics around his neck with the Settebello cap.
Having finished his competitive activity just over a year ago, he took the reins of the Messina Sports Club, which manages the “Vittorio Magazzù” swimming pool in Fiumara Guardia. In the summer, he oversaw the preparation of five disabled athletes, who made the crossing of the Strait. Together with expert boatmen, he took care of the logistics in the water and physically swam alongside the participants until they reached the Calabrian shore.
Last Sunday, four swimmers from Polisportiva Messina took part in the fourth phase of the Finp regional championship, obtaining flattering results. The races took place in the swimming pool of the “Wellnext Sport Club” of Sant’Agata di Militello, where in the 50 freestyle Giacomo Arnao and Antonella Rigano climbed to the top step of the podium in the S06 and S11 categories respectively. Place of honor went to Marco Sciutteri (S08), while Giuseppe Cannavò took third place S04.
