On November 8, the Ens Provincial Section of Reggio Calabria organized an accessible cultural tour in Soveria Mannelli, a charming town in the province of Catanzaro, combining history, culture and inclusion. The group visited the “Carta” Business Museum of Rubbettino Print e Editore, a publishing house of national importance with over 2,500 published titles. They were welcomed by Dr. Gabriele Emilio Chiodo, archaeologist and historian, and by Dr. Tania Cerquiglini, Director of the Museum, who illustrated the evolution of printing and the historical tools used over the centuries.
Subsequently, the participants explored the Lanificio Leo, the oldest textile factory in Calabria, where they admired ancient still functioning machines that produce yarns for scarves, shawls, plaids and hats. The Mayor of Soveria Mannelli, Michele Chiodo, greeted the visitors, thanking them for choosing the town and promoting local excellence (Rubbettino and Lanificio Leo).
The day continued at the “La Rosa nel Bicchiere” farmhouse, where the group enjoyed typical dishes. In the afternoon, led by Dr. Chiodo and Mrs. Silvana Amoroso, the participants visited the imposing ruins of the Abbey of S. Maria di Corazzo, welcomed with greetings from the Mayor of Carlopoli, Emanuela Talarico.
An experience of integration and valorisation of the territory, which united Ens members and guests (accompanied by an LIS interpreter) on a journey between past and present. The Ens Section of Reggio Calabria thanks the community of Soveria Mannelli for their hospitality and all those who made the day unforgettable.
