“Tcommitted murder aggravated by trivial reasons” And “carrying weapons or objects capable of offending”. They are the charges filed against a 36-year-old of Neapolitan origins but resident in Scalea, regarding a crime that occurred on the evening of January 5th in Scalea.
The man is currently in prison, on an order issued by the investigating judge of Paola and carried out by the Carabinieri of the Scalea Company. The provision arises from an investigation developed by the Scalea Carabinieri Station with the support of the Company’s Norm and coordinated by the Paola Prosecutor’s Office.
The reconstruction of the attack
At around 11.45pm that evening, the military, alerted by a call to 112, intervened near a restaurant in the historic center of Scalea where the presence of an injured man had been reported. Once on site they found that the latter, a 49-year-old of Sicilian origins resident in Scalea, had an obvious stab wound in the left thoracic-abdominal area, just below the heart, which is why he was immediately transported to the hospital. The suspect was therefore charged with the crimes of attempted aggravated murder as would have carried out acts suitable and unequivocally aimed at causing the death of the 49-year-old causing injuries to vital parts of the body with a cutting weapon, an event which did not occur due to causes beyond one’s control and for having acted for trivial reasons.
The testimonies of the people who witnessed the events, collected immediately, were fundamental for the reconstruction of what happened and for the identification of the perpetrator of the crime. The victim, who was spending the evening in a restaurant in Scalea with his family, at a certain point began recording some videos with his smartphone, filming the interior of the venue where there was also live music, footage which is were then acquired by investigators. The suspect, annoyed by the fact that he had also been filmed in the various videos, approached the 49-year-old and told him several times that he did not want these videos to be published on social networks.
Although the victim had reassured him several times that he would not publish anything, visibly annoyed, at the height of a lively discussion, the 36-year-old first slapped him in the face and then hit him with a bladed weapon, probably a knife, at the height of vital organs, only by pure chance not fatally. The intervention of the owner of the place was also fundamental, as he took steps to separate the two, preventing the situation from worsening further.
The suspect, at the end of the formalities, was transferred to the Paola prison at the disposal of the Judicial Authority.
