The reassurances of the A2a leaders before the deputies of the bicameral Commission for combating the disadvantages deriving from insularity, chaired by the Hon. Tommaso Calderone, regarding the projects to be carried out at the Centrale di Archi, have evidently not convinced the regional deputy Matteo Sciotto.
The parliamentarian from Sud Gioca Nord yesterday presented a formal request for an urgent hearing to the third legislative commission of the ARS to address the situation of the San Filippo del Mela thermoelectric power plant and the entire related industries, “in a state of strong agitation – he writes – due to the lack of a clear industrial plan on the future of the site”. «We are talking about a strategic energy and industrial garrison for Sicily which for decades has guaranteed employment and economic benefits for the Valle del Mela. Today, however – claims Sciotto – we are witnessing continuous postponements, unrealized projects and the prospect of the closure of old heating units without a concrete alternative. It is unacceptable to leave this community in absolute uncertainty.” The political exponent further underlines that “according to the available documentation, without the actual start-up of the planned new plants, over 350 workers, including direct and related staff, risk losing their jobs”.
