The Regional Department of Programming, last December, established the distribution of financial resources intended for the eight functional urban areas (Fua) identified on the island: these are the AMetropolitan territorial ggregations of Palermo, Catania and Messina, and of those of Trapani, Ragusa, Syracuse, Caltanissetta and Gela, recognized by the Region as “urban authority” for the implementation of the related territorial strategies and the selection of interventions to be financed within the PR FESR 2021/2027, for a total amount of 647.8 million euros (in addition to some subsequent sums ). The functional urban area is a system of local local authorities aimed at employing the European resources of programming 21-27.
In the context of Three axes – Innovation and competitiveness, attractiveness and livability, ecological and digital transition – The strategy developed by the Fua di Messina provides: interventions for collaborative research and the meeting between the agents of innovation and the strengthening of the production fabric, as part of the first axis; Urban regeneration, strengthening of tourist reception systems, accessibility and usability of tourist attractors, redevelopment of the historical, artistic and cultural heritage, green infrastructures and measures to reconcile life and work and against residential discomfort, for the second axis; Local public transport, logistics and intermodality, reduction of public energy consumption, improvement of the water service and reduction of waste production and enhancement of the collection, as regards the third axis.
