After almost a century of activity, the historic closes its doors Macheda pastryconsidered by many to be the oldest in the city. The small place in via Aschenez, a point of reference for generations of reggini and symbol of local confectionery craftsmanship, today announced its definitive closure through a touching post published on social media by the family.

“With today the story of the Macheda pastry bar ends. The world changes, the ailments and age advance, and there were no longer the conditions to move forward”, write Giuseppe and Tommasina, the last custodians of the family tradition.

A farewell that has the flavor of melancholy, but also of gratitude. The one towards an loyal clientele that over time has become “also and above all friends”, as we read in the message. And towards a city that has been able to recognize, and celebrate, the excellence of its products: biscuits, nougat, pastiereand above all the inimitable taralluccishipped all over the world by those who, far from Reggio, wanted to keep a fragment of the house.

Founded almost a century ago, the Macheda pastry has crossed eras, crisis and transformations, always remaining faithful to a sober style, made of Kindness, quality and passion. Elements embodied by Giuseppe and Tommasina, who continued to carry out the activity even in the hardest years.

“Now a new life begins for us, we hope more peaceful,” reads the final post. But the sign left by a place that has been more than a simple pastry remains strong: An identity piece of the citya space for meeting, memory and tradition.

While on social networks the messages of affection are already multiplying, the greeting of the Macheda closes with a sweet and ironic hope: “We wish all you to find Tarallucci of the same quality as Macheda. Even if it will be very, very difficult.”
