The traditional homage to the marble Immaculate Conception, the statue located in the square behind the Cathedral, has been renewed. Mayor Federico Basile laid the wreath of flowers on behalf of the citizens and the firefighters, with the evocative climb upwards. Immediately afterwards the auxiliary bishop Cesare Di Pietro offered incense and prayed for all the people of Messina, in particular for young people and for families experiencing hardship

This together with the mass in the church of San Francesco all’Immacolata is the moment with which the Christmas holidays open in Messina in the name of devotion and tradition. In the afternoon the procession of the simulacrum of the Immaculate Conception will start from the church: among the stops planned is the one in front of the Montevergine monastery for the prayer of the Poor Clares and in Piazza Duomo.
