“At the end of the political and administrative review conducted in recent weeks, I have decided to withdraw the delegations to the councilors in office and reset the Council, a step that I believe is essential to fully verify the real and sincere willingness to carry forward the renewal program that the electorate has rewarded. Three years of very hard work await us and we cannot allow ourselves pauses, uncertainties, errors”. This was announced in a note by the mayor of Catanzaro, Nicholas Fiorita.

“There is a need – according to the mayor – for a a joint and united effort, free from partisan egoism, to allow the Administration to reap the fruits of the work done so far and to achieve the strategic objectives within the established timeframes such as – just to name a few – the completion of the port, the start of the activities of the Exhibition Centre, the establishment of pedestrian areas, the relaunch of the historic centre also through new management functions (University, TAR, Employment Centre, State Archives, Superintendency), a new relationship with the University and Higher Education capable of generating a serious internationalisation project and therefore the presence of foreign students, the modernisation of the Ceravolo stadium, the construction of three nurseries, the redevelopment of the area of the Nicholas Green gardens, Villa Margherita and Galleria Mancuso, the completion of the viaduct over the Fiumarella to the seafront, the design and construction of the second alternative access road to the Sansinato”.

“Along with these strategic objectives – according to Fiorita – there is a need for greater effectiveness in the maintenance and environmental policy, as well as a close dialogue with the Region and Sorical to address the problem of the water crisis more incisively. It is also necessary to continue with even greater impetus the discussion with the Office of the Health Commissioner to demand the opening of the second emergency room. and the availability of funds to create new hospital spaces. A significant effort that evidently also requires a fine-tuning of the bureaucratic structure of the Municipality. Within ten days, having explored all the available resources, I will draw my conclusions and, with the prerogatives assigned to me by law, the consequent decisions”.
