Confirmation of the cut in the Rai license fee from 90 to 70 euros is not present in the text of the budget law sent to the Chambersdecided in last year’s budget and valid for 2024. Confirmation of the measure was announced at a press conference on 16 October.

The cut could therefore be inserted during the parliamentary process. In the past maneuver the amount of the license fee, at the urging of the League, was “redetermined at 70 euros for 2024”. At the same time, the text had foreseen a contribution for the development of the public service of 430 million euros, again for 2024.

Codacons: “Failure to cut the Rai license fee will cost Italian families between 420 and 430 million”

The failure to cut the Rai license fee will cost Italian families between 420 and 430 million euros in 2025. Codacons denounces this, commenting on the failure to include in the budget law the reduction of the license fee from 90 to 70 euros, decided in last year’s budget and valid for 2024.
«Bad news for Italian consumers, who after two years of high bills risk finding themselves with an increase in electricity bills next year due to the failure to extend the reduction of the Rai license fee», explains Codacons.
«The television subscription fee», adds the association, «is due by anyone who has a television set, and since 2016 the presumption of possession of the same set has been introduced in the event that there is a user for the supply of energy electricity in the place where a person has his/her registered residence. Owners of electricity users for residential domestic use are therefore required to pay the fee by debiting the electricity bill”.
«Before the discount from 90 to 70 euros, the Rai license fee generated revenues of around 1.9 billion euros per year», explains Codacons. «This means that, in the event of failure to extend the cut, starting from 2025 Italian families will have to take into account a greater overall expense of between 420 and 430 million per year in terms of rent»
