An intense and meaningful day animated today The Memorial Day 2025 in Messinaorganized by the Provincial Secretariat of the Autonomous Police Union (SAP). The initiative took place between the theater and the sports fields of the SSD Fair Play of “Cristo Re”, transforming itself into a moment of strong civic involvement in the name of memory, sport and legality. The ceremony, open to the theater, saw the pupils of the “Gravitelli” Comprehensive Institute, engaged in an educational project on legality. With billboards, simple words but full of meaning, musical performances and the intonation of the nationalno, the boys paid tribute to the victims of the mafia and terrorism, transmitting an authentic and touching message.

The intervention of the auxiliary bishop, Monsignor Cesare Di Pietro, who invited those present not to forget the faces and the names of those who gave their lives for the common good, also recalling the words of Pope Leone XIV, is particularly significant. The central moment of the day was the football tournament “of memory, truth and justice”, which saw four symbolic teams challenge each other: Police, Quarto Savona 15, Quarto Savona 21 and justice. The formations, made up of representatives of the police and magistrates of the Judicial District of Messina, gave birth to a sporting event with a strong symbolic value.

The tournament ended with the following ranking: 1st place for the police teamfollowed by Quarto Savona 15, Quarto Savona 21 and justice. Space also for training and prevention, with a demonstration of the airways unblocking maneuvers by Dr. Immacolata Rulli and the health personnel of the SIMEUP-Italian Society of Pediatric Emergency Medicine. Born in 1992 in response to the massacres of Capaci and via D’Amelio, the Memorial Day represents for the SAP an essential moment to renew the commitment to the promotion of the culture of legality. “Making memory is a moral duty,” said the organizers, stressing that the memory is the first step towards a more just and cohesive society. Today Messina replied with participation and awareness, transforming the sports field into a place of collective reflection, where memory and sport merged into a powerful message: the fight against crime also passes through union, education and memory.
