The Carabinieri of the Cirò Marina Company have dealt a decisive blow to local crime by executing a detention order issued by the Crotone Prosecutor’s Office against DAS, cl. 77, subject resident in the municipality of Crotone, called to serve a residual sentence of over four years and six months of imprisonment for illegal possession of weapons in competition, aggravated by the mafia method, as part of an operation is part of a broader framework of combating organized crime and which also saw DAF, cl. 72 and CD, cl. 2002, two other recipients of the definitive measures, turned themselves in respectively at the prisons of Cosenza and Prato, where they will have to serve prison sentences of approximately two and four and a half years.

The circle is thus definitively closed on a frightening escalation of violence which, in August 2022, had transformed the streets of Cirò Marina into a true “wild west” scenario, sowing terror among the residents: in that dramatic situation, the town had been shaken, in fact, by a sequence of gun raids, with volleys of 9mm Luger caliber bullets and heavy volleys of 12 gauge buckshot brutally exploded against cars and house facades private. Those episodes, characterized by an alarming criminal unscrupulousness, were not just acts of damage but a dramatic demonstration of military force in the heart of the town, a climate of urban guerrilla warfare arising from banal disputes but conducted with the ferocity and methods typical of mafia groups. The complex investigation, launched immediately by the Carabinieri of the Provincial Command of Crotone under the direction of the District Anti-Mafia Directorate of Catanzaro, made it possible to eradicate the dangerous drift of blood and intimidation that had violated public safety in that summer, guaranteeing today, with the definitive transfer of the culprits to prison, the full restoration of order and legality for the entire community.
