The municipal budget will be one of the hottest topics of the upcoming electoral campaign. There are three numbers that alone tell the financial structure of the Municipality’s budget: 191 million deficit; 523 million provision for doubtful debts; 737 million of active residues.
Starting from these figures, we asked Enzo Cuzzola, an expert in the sector, for a comparison between the accounts of Reggio and Messina, because by comparing the two budgets the citizen can get a clearer idea. «I have been observing the administrative life of the two cities of the Strait for many years – states Cuzzola – with particular attention also from personal and professional experience. In fact, I have had the honor of covering the role of councilor in both Reggio and Messina and, due to my work in the field of local authority finance, I have always had the opportunity to get to know the dynamics of municipal administrations closely. This allows me to follow with interest the administrative evolution of the two cities, which share many characteristics: similar urban dimensions, role as metropolitan cities and difficult economic contexts. By observing some fundamental indicators, significant differences emerge in the financial structure of the two administrations”.
