The “Progetto Valentia” association, led by the president Nicola Cortesehas put forward the candidacy of Vibo Valentia as the city where the New Year’s Eve broadcast “The Year to Come” will be held on 31 December 2025.
“Following the recent event regarding New Year’s Eve 2024 broadcast live on RAI known as “The Year to Come” and held in the city of Reggio Calabria, we learned that the Calabria Region has managed to secure the possibility of broadcast the show in one of the Calabrian provincial capitals that have not yet enjoyed this privilege. There is already talk at the Regional Citadel of possible candidacies of the cities of Cosenza or Catanzaro, guiltily ignoring our city Vibo Valentia. We believe that our provincial capital city and our territory have equal dignity to its regional sisters and that it is right and highly appropriate for its possible candidacy to be taken seriously into consideration for the next New Year’s Eve event in 2025. We are certain that we have all the potential to aspire to obtain this investiture since Vibo Valentia brings with it a thousand-year history rich in archaeology, culture, architecture and art that is the envy of all other Calabrian cities. We believe we have one of the most beautiful historic centers in the south and certainly in Calabria and we have a geographical position that no Calabrian provincial capital city possesses. In fact, it overlooks an enviable promontory and is positioned on a coast which, in our opinion, is the most beautiful in Calabria and among the most beautiful in Italy”.
Regarding the location that should host the event “in our opinion Piazza Municipio can easily fit in, which as a result of the recent restyling has acquired greater volume, prestige and beauty much more than Piazza Indipendenza in Reggio Calabria or Piazza Pitagora in Crotone. We therefore think that the now bygone times of favoritism towards the usual Calabrian realities must end and that Vibo Valentia can and must rise to a role that it deserves in the regional context”.
The “Progetto Valentia” association urged the administrators of Vibo, “primarily the mayor Dr.Enzo Romeo and the councilor for Culture and Entertainment Avv.Stefano Soriano with his team and all the majority and opposition regional councilors representing our territory, to work from now on in order to pursue this precious objective or to forward the official candidacy to the presidential offices of the Calabria Region and to the address of president Roberto Occhiuto to whom we recommend for once attention and fair treatment for our city Vibo Valentia. If the New Year in Calabria is the celebration of the Calabrians, it must be even more so for the people of Vibo. President Occhiuto has repeatedly expressed his desire to have an ambitious vision for the entire Calabria region and this must not remain just a slogan. Therefore let him demonstrate with facts that he takes this opportunity into consideration for us. Then we can talk about shared growth!”.
