From “simple” affiliate to regent of the powerful ‘Ndrangheta club in Cirò. The “Saulo” investigation by the Catanzaro DDA recounts the criminal rise of Basilio Paletta. The 50-year-old, before ending up in prison in 2024 to serve a final sentence of 10 years and 10 months imposed on him in the “Stix” trial, would have taken over the reins of the Farao-Marincola gang due to the power vacuum that had been created, after the arrests and convictions of the historical leaders.
Further details emerge from the documents of the operation taken on Tuesday with 21 precautionary measures carried out by the Crotone carabinieri. With the raid involving a total of 45 suspects, the Catanzaro anti-mafia prosecutor’s office says it is convinced that it has dismantled the new structure of the Cirotana ‘Ndrangheta locality which had reorganized under the direction of Paletta through extortion and damage. According to investigators, the 50-year-old, who was released in 2022, “was the only person in charge of dealing with every matter” of the association due to “his “status” as an authoritative exponent at large”.
