Searches have been underway since yesterday afternoon in the mountain municipality of Antillo for the disappearance of a elderly hunter whose traces have been lost. The man, an 82 year old from MessinaAnd disappeared around 4.30pm while he was driving a hunting trip in the countryside of Antillo with a group of friends and was in the Paiano district, far from the town centre.
Just before dusk he moved away from the rest of the group and within fifteen minutes all trace of him was lost. His companions, in fact, started looking for him in the area where they had last seen him, until worried about his absence and no longer being able to track him down, not even on his mobile phone, they decided to alert the emergency services.
Once the alarm was raised, they mobilised Carabinieri, the volunteer firefighters of Antillo and the Letojanni detachment and the municipal civil protectionwho reached the area to start the search, which was not easy given that the area where the last sighting took place is very inaccessible and steep and the fall of darkness did not facilitate the intervention. The operations are coordinated by the commander of the Taormina Carabinieri Company, Captain Domenico Tota.
The son of the missing elderly man also arrived in Antillo to take part in the searches, which continued into the evening under the fire brigade’s photoelectric lights, with the hope of finding the hunter safe and sound as soon as possible.
