«Today we can say that an important first goal has been achieved: the urgent works of safety of the Lungomare di Santa Teresa di Riva have been completed on scheduled times. This is a fundamental intervention that returns full functionality to a strategic artery for the roads of the entire Ionian area, seriously compromised by the storms last January “.

This was stated by the President of the Sicilian Region, Renato Schifani, commenting on the reopening to the traffic of the Lungomare of the Ionian town of the Province of Messina.

“The speed with which it intervened – continues Schifani – is the result of an effective synergy between region, civil protection, commissioner structure against hydrogeological instability and municipal administration. This is the governance model that we intend to carry on: concrete presence in the area, listening to the mayors, ability to decide and act quickly. But – concludes the President of the Region – we don’t stop here. In September I will personally return to Santa Teresa di Riva to start the largest intervention ever carried out to counter the coastal erosion in this area: about 8 million euros of works for the protection and redevelopment of the whole promenade, on a stretch of more than 3.5 kilometers. A work expected for years, financed through the commissioner structure against hydrogeological instability, which will change the face of the coast and give greater safety to citizens and local economic activities “.
