On the afternoon of April 19, the state police arrested a 24-year-old man, a foreign citizen regularly present on the national territory and domiciled in the urban area of Rossano, in flagrante delicto, on charges of theft.
The intervention was triggered following a report received by the single emergency number 112, which indicated the presence of a person inside a recreational club in the centre. According to what has been reconstructed, the man entered the back of the bar counter and, taking advantage of a moment of distraction from the manager, stole an envelope containing cash and then fled. The agents of the Flying Squad of the Corigliano Rossano public safety police station, who arrived immediately on site, collected the first useful information and viewed the images of the video surveillance system inside the premises, ascertaining the dynamics of the facts. Immediately afterwards they set out on the trail of the alleged perpetrator, who was found shortly afterwards in the city centre.
Upon seeing the operators, the 24-year-old attempted to flee, but was promptly blocked. The subsequent personal search allowed the stolen money to be recovered: part of it was found in the jacket, while another sum was found, during a more in-depth check at the police station, inside the shoes.
Considering the flagrant nature of the crime, the man was arrested and, on the orders of the public prosecutor on duty, placed under house arrest awaiting direct judgement. In the validation hearing on 20 April 2026, the judge validated the arrest, postponing the discussion of the proceedings.
