Night of fear in the historic center of Rende, where a man and a woman, both Italian, attempted to blow up a building. The tragedy was prevented by the timely intervention of a resident and the carabinieri of the Operational and Radiomobile Unit of the Rende Company.
According to information gathered by investigators, the couple tried to cause an explosion by releasing gas from a cylinder located on a landing of the building. A neighbor, realizing what was happening, managed to close the valve and immediately raise the alarm. In a few minutes a patrol of the Carabinieri arrived on the scene, identifying and blocking the two suspects shortly after the serious episode. Both were arrested on serious charges, including attempted aggravated multiple murder.
The first investigative hypotheses speak of strong tensions between the couple and the other condominium owners as a possible motive for the gesture. Investigations are still underway to clarify every aspect of the affair, which could have turned into a tragedy similar to that which occurred in Veneto a few weeks ago, which cost the lives of three Carabinieri.
The arrests were ordered by the deputy prosecutor on duty Domenico Frascina. The two suspects, defended by the lawyer Gianluca Garritano, will undergo the validation hearing before the GIP of the Court of Cosenza.
