Forza Italia formally opened the electoral campaign for the municipal elections in Reggio Calabria today, presenting a ten-point program to be submitted to public opinion and the centre-right coalition to return to the leadership of Palazzo San Giorgio, after eleven years of uninterrupted centre-left government led by Giuseppe Falcomatà, elected regional councilor in October 2024.

The ten points of the program: transparency and services

The initiative “Now Reggio, 10 steps from the future”, promoted by Francesco Cannizzaro’s deputy, was attended by, among others, the Undersecretary of the Interior Wanda Ferro (Brothers of Italy), the regional coordinator of Noi Moderati, Pino Galati, the former president of the Calabria Region, Giuseppe Scopelliti, the regional secretary of the UDC, Salvatore Bulzomì. Among the most salient points, “a municipality that is truly transparent and close to citizens, capable of certain and rapid responses, legality and the fight against organized crime, administrative decentralization with the return of the Constituencies”. And again: an “intervention for the Arghillà neighborhood on the Caivano model, daily maintenance of services (water, public lighting, waste, purification), strengthening of urban greenery, enhancement and protection of the coasts, new landing places for nautical tourism, protection of the weakest and most inadequate social groups, the home help desk”.

Economic development and large infrastructures

«But the Forza Italia program – said Francesco Cannizzaro, regional secretary of the party and parliamentarian – also aims at the growth prospects of the territory, engaging with entrepreneurs who want to invest in urban planning that is truly a driver of development and widespread opportunities for the Reggio economy. With the completion of the modernization of the Strait Airport and the reorganization of the port, the construction of the Bridge over the Strait – concluded Cannizzaro – we will lay the foundations for our city to become the ‘natural gateway’ of the Mattei Plan for the nations and peoples overlooking the southern shore of the Mediterranean”.

Towards centre-right unity

According to what has been learned, the leaders of the Calabrian centre-right, at the conclusion of the Forza Italia demonstration, met to analyze the political situation in the city.

The possible candidacy of Francesco Cannizzaro

«If my candidacy for mayor of Reggio Calabria becomes necessary, I will take the field. But I must say that today, in Reggio Calabria, the centre-right, which is strong and united, has authoritative and competent figures, both political and from the professional class, capable of being chosen.” This was said during an initiative held in the ‘Monteleone’ room of the Regional Council, by the regional secretary of Forza Italia, Francesco Cannizzaro, one of the most influential parliamentarians in the party, in which hundreds of citizens and representatives of the centre-right, Reggio and Calabrian coalition took part: for Fdi, the Undersecretary of State for the Interior, Wanda Ferro and the regional councilor Giovanni Calabrese; for the League, the Hon. Valeria Sudano, new party commissioner in Calabria, sen. Tilde Minasi, the president of the regional council group, Giuseppe Mattiani, the former president of the Calabria region, Giuseppe Scopelliti, and again, the representatives of the UDC, Noi Moderates and Popular Alliance.

The unity of the center-right and the criticism of the current administration

“Regardless of who will be the candidate for mayor of Reggio Calabria – underlined Francesco Cannizzaro – it remains essential that the entire centre-right coalition is fully committed to implementing the programme, since the problems that the centre-left, the Democratic Party and Falcomatà have neglected for almost eleven years of city government are so many and serious for the lives of the people of Reggio Calabria, that it will take all our strength, at a regional and national level, to face and resolve them”.
